What are the benefits of eating sugarcane?

The History of  sugarcane

It is said that some tribes of the Stone Age first discovered some wild sugarcane trees, which they chewed to become "juice drinkers". Later, sugarcane cultivation began systematically.

According to Western dictionaries, sugarcane belongs to the grain and cereal family (Gramineae). It is said that in the beginning, sugarcane was a small grass, which gradually acquired size and sweetness to become the sugarcane of today.

Sugarcane is originally a crop in South Asia, including India, and Southern America. Since sugarcane is mentioned in the Vedas and Charaka and Sushruta Samhitas, it is not wrong to consider India as its original habitat or place of origin.

It is also said by Prisoner Prisling that the birthplace of sugarcane is India. When the people of the world did not even know the name of sugar, the Indians were producing it.

Doctor Streke wrote that in India, large grasses produce honey without the help of bees. This means that he was referring to sugarcane.

Before Alexander the Great invaded India in 327 BC, his soldiers reported that the inhabitants of India were chewing a certain stick that contained honey. The intention of that stick was certainly sugarcane.

These facts show that sugarcane spread from India to other parts of the world. Its arrival in the mid-oceanic region of Europe was in the seventh century with the Arabs.

Only the wealthy in southern Europe had access to sugarcane juice in the 14th century, which was essentially unknown in northern Europe.

Sugarcane wasn't until the beginning of the 19th century when scientists discovered the carbohydrate content in sugarcane juice and its significant health benefits for humans, that its use increased in Europe and northern countries.

This led to the production of sugar in China as well, as transporting sugarcane juice from one place to another was difficult and costly. Before this, other sources of sugar, such as sugar beets, palm, and maple, were widely used.

Initially, the sugar produced was quite brown, but as people became more interested in modernity and civilization, sugar gradually became whiter. Thus, white sugar became prevalent.

In addition to these countries, there are significant sugar cane crops in the delta of the Mississippi River, Natal in Africa, and Queensland in Australia.
